Ahhh, the Isle of Wight.
I was looking for a spot to take my son (who has been studying in London all year) for a short hiking trip, someplace easy to get to from London, and someplace with a bit of water. I randomly picked this island as the images on the internet looked intriguing. What a find! It felt totally "off the beaten path". The first weekend in May offers a variety of festivals: there was a walking festival (with literally hundreds of organized walks), as well as biking, motorcycle, jazz and art festivals. It was fabulous! There were even plenty of spots to sit and sketch with the most amazing views. With tons of history (Jimmy Hendrix died on this Island after a concert) it was a fabulous spot to explore and plan on returning to in the future.
