This Sunday brought both sun and a little more snow to an already white landscape. My spring "gift" to myself was to take Camilla La Mer's Soul Art Doll workshop in Denver. What a lovely afternoon! Camilla spread out a mountain of wonderful materials and then shared her process, then presented us with pre-sewn doll shapes in a variety of lovely fabrics. We let the fabric "choose us" then jumped in and created a figure using thread, glue and lots of inspiration. The goal was to put aside any plans, and just play. What fun!! My doll ended up to be two faced without a clear front and back. Lots of shinny materials with a necklace (or mask) of clay eyes painted copper. 3 hours passed in 5 minutes, and my lady is now with me helping with the mixed media efforts in my studio. These gifts of time to create are precious. Check out Camilla's work at http://soulshamans.blogspot.com/
I just love the Golden Fiber Arts Studio! Tamara is so welcoming, the town is adorable (with terrific coffee and lunch options) and just the most wonderful students show up. Thanks to all (Marj, Diana, Katie, Judy, Sandra and Tamara); I learned so much from everyone. We promised to get back together to see the finished books in a few months; below is a slide show showing the progression of the work.
