I hope you have had a chance to see my recent video tutorial on shaped pages (search jcm6160 on youtube or scroll down to find a link in the blog below). I had a chance to play with the remaining shaped pages and wanted to share them. It sets up an interesting challenge to "have to" work on the backs of these pages as well as the fronts! The floral shapes worked well for me this week as I was able to spend some wonderful time hiking in the cool, Colorado air surrounded by wildflowers all week! All of these pages (above) use spray inks, drawing pens, collaged decorative papers and a few altered photos that were sewn on then painted with white gesso.

Wooohoo! Play date with Kay at the Denver Art Museum to see the YSL Yves St. Laurent) show. It is a blockbuster! Kay and I brought out journals but we noticed a guard directing another artist to put away her drawing tools; no photos or sketching allowed! Oh well, that just meant we had to commit everything gorgeous to memory. My favorite was - well everything! but the drama of walking into the tuxedo room was unforgettable. And there was the pink bow! The whole show is just wonderful, not to be missed. It is only on display until July 8 so hurry down. I bought tickets upon arrival so don't let the timed ticket system turn you off. Another highlight; watching the video and YSL sketching his models.
(By the way - the black strips are fabric left over from my experiments with mono printing for a fiber journal. These are collaged on gold tissue paper, addition of pink bow from brochure, meager sketches of the tuxedos from my memory of the show, text in sharpie and silver pens.) What a lovely morning in a magic garden at the Zook Cafe today! Thanks to our hosts the iced drinks were perfect and the food yummy - the conversation and sharing of our journals was terrific! If you are looking for a really nice spot for a true adventure journal experience check this place out. They are located in the Highlands neighborhood in Denver, part of the wonderful Puppet Theater space. Susanna shared a way to create unique stamps/prints using craft foam, for more info check out Clothe, Paper, Scissors web site. A few of the participants mentioned the need for a "sketching for journal pages" class - I am working on dates and location for an August workshop so please check back in a few weeks (workshop page). Our next meet-up will be in Niwot in July; join us! (all the details on the workshop page) |
