It has been a perfect holiday weekend; cold, grey, lots of time for quiet reflection. I even found a few hours to get into my studio to add some details (mainly dark areas) to my journal pages from the train trip we all took last week. The portraits were done in pencil, I added the watercolor and ink after the initial sketching. The spread with the text in the mountains used watercolor as well as watercolor pencils; the train sketch is in pen and watercolors. The final sketch of our conductor was from memory. I was so intrigued with her stories (including getting her hat stolen!) and her wonderful humor; she was the perfect person to help us end the wild adventure! I have used everything on this page: watercolor, chalks, ink & colored pencils. I wish I had asked her name! I love going back over my travel journal pages as it helps to re-live the memories.

I can barely stop laughing long enough to get serious about posting these pictures! My "Dive Bar" journal group decided to ditch the dive-y spots in Denver and head to the Colorado mountains on the Amtrak Zephyr. Oh man, what a trip! We left Union Station at 8:00am and rode the rails to Glenwood Springs arriving in the afternoon. Then we spent the night in the historic Hotel Colorado, returning to Denver the next day on a noon train. Our 48 hours together were completely wonderful. We had so many adventures and met so many interesting (and hysterical) folks that the stories of the trip now take longer than the actual excursion! We filled our journal pages, laughed endlessly and experienced Adventure Journaling at its finest. I did not expect the train to be as comfortable and the scenery to be as spectacular, nor did I imagine that 7 women could have that much to talk and laugh about!!
