Just when I thought my schedule would settle down and I could stand, like a bird, on the wires for a bit...sheesh, no way! I am in the process of getting ready for 3 exciting events; the Taos workshop, the October MMA workshop with Carol and the February Mixed Media Workshop with Carol. I am energized and inspired, but feeling like I need more and more time in my studio with fewer distractions to really get on top of everything. All this is to say, with big apologies, that I won't be at the sketch meet-up this coming Weds (Aug. 31) . I encourage to try to go anyway; time for dedicated sketching is so wonderful. We were going to meet at Union Station, 9-11am; if you go, take a look around to see if you can spot anyone else setting up for some fun. After this Weds we will meet on Sept. 7 (I should be finished writing all of my hand-outs by then!!), location TBD, 9-11am again. Check back Sunday Sept. 4 for details.

I have scoped out a few great places for the next sketch meet-up! There are two possible buildings to sketch on the corner of S. Logan and Florida (1501 S. Logan Str, Denver). First, the Decker Library is one of the jewels in the DPL system; lots of brick, lovely windows, interesting history. Next door, to the west, is another surprise! The Fleming Mansion sits on a little rise and offers lots of great views. There is plenty of parking and shade so the early morning light should be lovely. I will be there setting up at 9:00am, Weds. Aug. 17. I'd like to work in this area until around 10:30, then move to the Los Compadres pop up taco stand behind ARC at 1515 S. Broadway. This will be more challenging to sketch as there is not too much shade, (and limited parking in the ARC lot) but I thought It would at least be fun to head over there to take some pictures. Want to join me? Just bring your sketch stuff and a chair if you'd like one in the first location, a camera for second spot. No need to RSVP, no instruction. Just show up and bring anyone else who might enjoy the plein aire work. Let's meet at 9:00am in front of the Decker Library (corner of Logan and Florida) if you arrive past 9 just wander around both buildings until you find the group. See you next week!
Ahh, I'm back from my month in Crested Butte, CO where the cool air filled my lungs every day and I was grateful for every minute. I expected the gorgeous views and the cool climate, but I did not expect the welcoming and warm community of friends I developed in such a short time. While I loved the long, slow paced days with time to sit and sketch I found that I was enriched by the authenticity of the people I met. Each one with a unique story, each one with their own "super power" and each person so generous with their laughter. This month found me laughing and sketching with Margot, Kristy, Lori, Sandy, Donna, Julie, Brenda, Kim and other delightful and interesting ladies. These relationships were the true surprises of the adventure! Now it is time to focus on un-packing the mountain of art supplies I had stuffed in my car (oh my), and re-entering my Denver rhythm. The next sketch meet up is planned for Weds, Aug. 3, 9-11am at the Denver Botanic Gardens if anyone is interested. I(I shall miss this one due to the re-entry recuperation from a bad cold I brought back from the higher altitudes). I will get back in the swing of things by the next meet up planned for Aug. 17, 9-11, at a pop-up Taco stand behind the ARC on S. Broadway. Address will be posted on Sunday Aug. 14. I am hoping to merge my friends/sketch meet-up group with the Urban Sketcher movement to create a formal USk group in Denver. Any thoughts? suggestions? I welcome your participation and interest so please let me know if you have any personal contacts with the USk group in Denver. Stay tuned!! |
